Lay Eucharistic Ministry

To serve Christ Church as a Lay Eucharistic Minister is a meaningful and fulfilling ministry. The opportunity to assist the celebrant during Holy Eucharist as a chalice bearer and lay reader is available to any church member who is or who wishes to be trained to perform these duties.. Two LEMs are scheduled to serve at each of the Sunday morning services. We would welcome additional volunteers to serve as Lay Eucharistic Ministers. If you are interested in volunteering at any of our services, please call the church office.

Lectors

A lay person trained in reading scripture who is appointed by the clergy person in charge of the congregation to read lessons or lead the prayers of the people. The term is from the Latin, “to read.” There is no license required for this lay ministry. A lector may also be known as a reader.

Ushers

Ushers help make everyone feel welcome. They hand out worship bulletins and assist people with special needs, pass the plates to collect the offering, bring them forward to the altar, and direct communicants for Holy Communion. As the first contact for visitors and members, our ushers provide a warm welcome, answer questions, and encourage everyone to return.

Altar Guild

A volunteer group of the parish whose ministry is to care for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens of the parish. Altar Guild members prepare the sanctuary for services, and clean up afterwards. Altar Guild members frequently supervise the decoration of the sanctuary of the parish with flowers. They work in teams for weekly services.

Docents and Greeters

The word “docent” comes from the Latin word “docere,” meaning to teach. According to the dictionary, a docent is “a lecturer or tour guide in a museum or cathedral, or church”. At Christ Church we open the doors so guests from the community can come in and enjoy our beautiful, historic building. Docents and Greeters are available to answer basic questions and to create the space for guests to experience God in this holy space.

Choir

A body of singers who provide musical leadership for congregational singing in the worship of the church. Choirs may also sing anthems or make other special musical offerings to beautify and enhance the experience of worship. The primary role of the choir is to lead and support the congregation's worship through singing, not to provide a musical performance. Choir members may wear a cassock and surplice, or an alb. The choir practices with the music director in preparation for the services. Please contact William Thomas for further information.

Food, Fun and Fellowship Committee

This committee plans many social activities for the congregation to build relationships in the community. Some activities include bake sales, dinners, coffee hours,

The Table of the Lord

This is the table, not of the Church, but of the Lord. It is made ready for those who seek God, those who love God, and those who want to love God more. So come, you who have much faith, and you who have little, or are questioning faith. Come, you who have been here often, and you who have not been for a long time or ever before. Come, you who have tried to follow and you who have failed. Come, not because the Church invites you; it is Christ who invites you to be known, to be fed, to be loved here.
