We, the parishioners at Christ Church, St. Michael’s Parish, are seeking a full-time Rector. We are a medium sized parish in a small town with a big commitment to serve one another, serve our church and serve the community in which we live.
Our church is the center point on the main street of the town of St. Michaels, Maryland, in the heart of the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The parish has had a church in the same location on the town’s harbor for over 350 years. Once a commercial center dependent on shipbuilding and seafood processing, the town and the surrounding Bay Hundred area has evolved into a tourist destination and supports a large population of active retired persons and second-home owners drawn from the neighboring areas of Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia. Some of our parishioners’ families have been members of the church for generations. Others have been drawn to the area by its history, natural beauty, cultural opportunities, not-too-close proximity to large cities and most of all by its sense of community.
Christ Church, St. Michael’s is financially stable, endowed and supported by parishioner pledges. We are an involved, high-energy congregation. We seek a Rector to help us grow and guide our energies as we try to live out our vision to be a welcoming community of faith where all may grow spiritually – seeking the wisdom of Christ, loving with the heart of Christ and serving with the hands of Christ – shining as a beacon in the Bay Hundred and beyond.
Note: The Bay Hundred is locally described as the geographic area west of the Oak Creek Bridge (including the villages of Newcomb and Royal Oak) up to, and including, Tilghman Island.
